About Mr. Matreci
Welcome to my web page. I am now in my 25th year at St. John Vianney. It hardly seems that it's been that long. After 20 years as assistant principal and a couple of years of full-time teaching I am excited to begin a new position here at St. John Vianney. I will be working in the Leadership Center as an Academic Specialist / Registrar and will return to teaching Theology for Concert Band members this year. The position is evolving but I am doing the kinds of things I always enjoyed--scheduling, etc.
I am a native St. Louisan--raised in Affton and currently live in South St. Louis. I have been associated with Catholic education all my life. I attended St. George grade school, Bishop DuBourg High School and St. Louis University. I have a BA in History and Education from SLU and a MA in History from the University of Missouri--St. Louis (my only venture outside Catholic education!) This year is my 43rd year in Catholic Education. I taught at the former Mercy High School from 1975 to 1985; was Dean of Students at the former St. Thomas Aquinas--Mercy High School from 1985 to 1989. I became an Associate Principal at Bishop DuBourg in 1989 and remained there until 1995 when I came over to Vianney as Assistant Principal. I have enjoyed every assignment I've had in these schools and still do.
After 34 years of marriage, I lost my wife, Marcia, to colon cancer in December, 2010. I have 2 grown daughters, Jackie and Sandy (they're out on their own--hooray!!!) and a granddaughter, Marlie Rose. I am an active parishioner of St. Raphael the Archangel Parish where I serve as director of the RCIA program. In my spare time I read and perform in the occasional high school drama production--maybe "perform" is not accurate--let's say "appear" in the interest of accuracy.
